Drainage design coordinated for projects across Worcestershire

Effective drainage design is essential for any new build, extension or remediation project. Poor drainage leads to flooding, damp and structural damage. LateShield coordinates drainage design for foul and surface water systems, including soakaway design, connection to public sewers and sustainable drainage solutions, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and planning conditions.

Ask a question

Foul water drainage carries wastewater from toilets, sinks, baths and appliances to the public sewer or a private treatment system. Surface water drainage carries rainwater from roofs, driveways and paved areas to a soakaway, watercourse or surface water sewer.

A soakaway is an underground structure that allows surface water to drain into the surrounding ground. It is used where connection to a public surface water sewer is not available or practical. Soakaway design requires a percolation test to assess the drainage capacity of the ground.

SuDS are drainage systems designed to manage surface water in a way that mimics natural drainage. They include features such as permeable paving, swales, detention basins and green roofs. SuDS are increasingly required by planning authorities for new development.

A house extension that increases the impermeable area of the site may require drainage design to manage the additional surface water. Building Regulations also require foul drainage from any new bathrooms or kitchens to be properly connected.
